Continued from (Part-8) After the vacation were over, grandson left for the city under great compulsions leaving behind the grandfather in an ocean of agony. It was a pleasant day after many days of continuous snowfall. The whole village was shining in bright sunlight the way Big Father shone for few days during the company of his grandson. But again beautiful time could not lasted long. To the village evening came with dark clouds and for the Big Father, grandson left him once again. Both the village and Big Father were in a gloomy mood. Big Father stood up from his wooden arm chair, it appeared that his old eyes wanted the eternal rest now. At this juncture of life, after passing through the numerous phases of life, he had only one wish in his heart, he wanted to see whole of his scattered family with him once again in his empty big house. He also knew that all his sons had settled down at different places, so assembling them at one place was quite impossible. Slowly walking towards ...

Childhood Part -4

 Continued from Part-3.

The Big Father while asking these question from himself went deep in to the world of his own struggling days. He was born in a poor family and didn’t had much resources to enjoy with. Cruel hands of death had snatched his father very early in life.He didn’t even remembered  his face, nor got any opportunity to cuddle, hug or play with him.His childhood was not normal.Time didn’t let him any opportunity to enjoy his childhood and  play games or enjoyed swimming with other boys.

After the death of his father, the condition of his home had deteriorated badly. Managing four square meals was a hard task for his mother. She had to work for extra long hours in her small fields to feed her self and small child. It was the time when the production was very low in fields due to the traditional farming techniques and old seeds. The land was ploughed using bulls and no fertilisers were available. It often required more hard work and labour to yield marginal amount of crops. Time had taught these hard realities to this boy very early in his life so, he had started helping his mother in her farming work.

The Big Father could remember clearly that he didn’t even received his  formal schooling. Whatever he learned was taught to him by the life and hard times. He had all his memories fresh in his heart. What he couldn’t remember well was, when he turned into a man from a child.  He had found himself always working hard for everything in his life. He could also remember how his hard work started paying  him back. It was only after the years of hard work he had saved some money to buy a pair of bulls for ploughing his fields. Now the farming had become comparatively easier for them and they  were yielding more crops. It was the time when he started selling portion of his crops in the nearby town and earn few money.

This nearby town had always made a significant place in the lives of all the residents of his village. It was this town, where on one side he sold his farm produce and on the other side he learned some basic techniques of business. Here after selling  his farm produce he used part of his money to buy cloths and toys and later sold them in the different villages. That business no doubt gave him considerably a good source of earnings but it was not that easy for him.Taking all these items on his back and tracking through the hilly tracks from one village to other was a bone breaking work. But to mark his existence in his society he had to continue this work.

After few years of this routine, one day  his old mother wanted him to marry and had a life partner. So with in next few months he got married in a very minimal way.It really seemed that his  wife had brought all the good luck and fortune for him. Shortly after his marriage he had opened a shop in his village. Now he could sell all these items from one place with out trekking through the mountains with the heavy bundles on his back. His wife could take care of his farms and old mother.

It was for the first time he found a sight of relief in his life. Business was going on well and all his miseries had almost disappeared. His life was somewhat stable and passing beautifully.  He was contented with his life with no regrets for his past and poverty.  Now he could find his eyes filled with many beautiful dreams. After  seeing lots of  hard times in life , it was unbelievable and a new experience for him to sit down calmly and plan beautiful things about his life ahead.

( Now it is to see how  life will uplift him from this stage  to the place of Big Father in next Blog shortly)
