Continued from (Part-8) After the vacation were over, grandson left for the city under great compulsions leaving behind the grandfather in an ocean of agony. It was a pleasant day after many days of continuous snowfall. The whole village was shining in bright sunlight the way Big Father shone for few days during the company of his grandson. But again beautiful time could not lasted long. To the village evening came with dark clouds and for the Big Father, grandson left him once again. Both the village and Big Father were in a gloomy mood. Big Father stood up from his wooden arm chair, it appeared that his old eyes wanted the eternal rest now. At this juncture of life, after passing through the numerous phases of life, he had only one wish in his heart, he wanted to see whole of his scattered family with him once again in his empty big house. He also knew that all his sons had settled down at different places, so assembling them at one place was quite impossible. Slowly walking towards ...

Childhood- Part .5

Cont. From Childhood - Part 4

So it was the start of golden days for the grandfather. Days were passing in planning and dreaming about his golden future when time took another good turn and he was nominated as the head of 5 villages by the government on the basis of his social work and dedication. It was a prestigious moment for him. Now his fame had increased many times in entire hills.

During this phase of transition in his life he got totally involved in the service of people. With the passage of time he got fully involved in social service having no involvement in  his business at all. Thankfully all his work and business was managed by his wife along with the farms. It was her greatness that she sent her sons to schools and hired labourers for farming related works.

Time never waits for anybody and its flow never stops, so happened in his life. One day when his wife while explaining to him about his business, he felt shocked to see some of her hair turned grey on her head. He was disturbed to see his darling life partner getting old. When he told his wife about her grey hair, she laughed with surprise and told him back that that he too was not so young any more, almost all of his beard had also turned white, and his sons were studying in higher classes.  Moreover villagers had now started calling him Father -Big Father. Hearing that was a grateful moment for him. It was like a reward of his hard work he had done throughout his life.

Poverty never have any friends. Same was case with him. During his entire life he had seen only poverty and no shoulder to lean on during the hard times. Whenever he was broken down in life, he had only one place to go for solace and that was under a huge old tree in his village. A small fresh water spring of cold water and an old stone idol under  that tree was believed as the place of Goddess, who took care of the farms, fields and health of all the villagers. This place was considered as sacred and had high regards among the villagers.

Now when he was know as Big Father and had attained a high status in his life, He felt that all he had received in his life was due to the blessings of village Goddess and in turn he had forgotten to do anything for the Goddess. So he contributed a portion of his income  for construction of a proper temple near the tree where  all the villagers can pray and assemble in the events of social gatherings like birth and death. He made it his routine to go to that temple daily and worship the Goddess.

After some years, his sons got settled in their lives. One  son got settled in a nearby village and other two sons were still living with him. At that time he had handed over all his business to his sons and departed himself away from all the worldly affairs. Now his most of the time would pass in praying and playing with his grandson.

The  Big Father was perhaps   trying to relive  his own childhood in his grandson. Whatever he had  missed in his own childhood, he tried to  give to his grandson.  He wanted to keep his grandson away   from all  the   pains  which he had faced himself in his   childhood. Whatever  the child  demanded from him,  he  would provide with  joy.  Almost whole day  he  along  with  his grandson could be seen playing praying, rejoicing, visiting places in village etc.

But time had taken him to a stage where he was not sure if staying his grandson in village is better decision or sending him to town for better schooling. Whole night he passed turning around and around but found no answer to his questions. It was morning now, he woke up and started his routine. Life passed with the same  routine for next few years .

“Tide of change” could never be stopped by anyone in this world. Change is inevitable with time and same was the case with his grandson. The little boy was a grownup boy now and there was no option but to send him to a nearest city almost 400 kms away from this village  for higher education. This decision was not easy for the entire family. The sentimental boy understood the change which looked  temporary at that moment was going to snatch so many things from him permanently. The old grandfather also knew separation had its everlasting effects. The water once  flown by never comes back.  Every happening in life had its permanent effects but in order to stay strong he gave false hopes to himself that he would be meeting his grandson shortly and start playing once again.

( Let’s see ahead if the good days will ever come again in the life of Big Father and his grandson)
